New Zealand born illustrator James Dignan has been commissioned to create these advertisements for a Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2009 campaign. Hopefully these are just proofs and not the final representations because the products look awfully dull and are not representational of their actual colours. Perhaps this was an artistic consideration but I really don’t think these ads highlight the product to the best advantage. Judge for yourself, with the other ad images below:

Hi Eric,
These are indeed some of the test sketches I made for the project. The actual finalised ads are running in the New York Times.
They are in black and white due to the news print support and do actually stand out beautifully in comparison to the standard luxury product shots of the other luxury brand advertisements appearing along side them.
Personally I think this juxtaposition of photography and illustration is a really interesting and powerful strategy. It’s always better to be looked over than over looked!
cheers,
James

James, thank you for commenting here! It is such a treat to hear the original artist’s perspective.
If these are running in the New York Times in black and white then they will certainly be eye-catching.
I think the style is excellent and very well-suited to the medium, the product, and the target customer.
